Scar Removal in Surrey

Scars can be caused by surgery, trauma, or conditions such as acne. They can also develop due to pregnancy, weight gain and growth (stretch marks).

Many people seek treatment for scars since they can be unsightly, restrict movement, or they can be painful or itchy. Some people are also prone to the development of keloid or hypertrophic scars, which they may feel particularly self-conscious about.

Scars can be treated in a number of different ways. At health + aesthetics we have a lot of experience in this area and will be able to advise you on the best option for you.

Scar Removal in Surrey Treatment Info

Some scars do not heal flat and become lumpy and larger than the original wound. These are known as keloid scars.
When the skin is broken the body produces collagen to aid the healing process. In some people too much collagen is produced, which causes the scar to become large and raised.

Keloid scars can appear anywhere on the body. They can be reddish in colour, itchy and occasionally painful. They can also be disfiguring and cause embarrassment.
Keloid scars are more common in African and Indian communities.

The different types of scars cannot be treated by the same method. You will need a consultation to assess the scar and we will be able to advise you about the best possible treatment.

There are a variety of different methods which can be used to treat scars, all of which will result in a dramatic improvement to the appearance.

Most of the treatments (apart from dermal fillers and corticosteroid injections) work by stimulating the skin to produce new collagen and elastin. This improves the scars as well as the overall quality of the skin.

The different treatments that can be used to improve scars include:

  • Fractionated CO2 (carbon dioxide) laser
  • EndyMed Intensif Radiofrequency treatment
  • Dermapen (Micro-needling) treatment
  • Rioblush Carboxytherapy
  • PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) ‘Dracula’ Therapy
  • Chemical Peels
  • ZO Medical Skincare
  • Dermal Fillers
  • Corticosteroid Injections

This type of treatment works best on pitted scars and will help the scar to become smaller, tighter and flatter. Laser therapy stimulates the production of collagen, tightens existing collagen in the tissues and re-surfaces the skin.
You will need a course of 3-5 treatments at 6 weekly intervals.

Micro-needling treatment will also work best on pitted scars. It will help the scar to become smaller, tighter and flatter. The treatment works by stimulating collagen production.

This type of treatment is excellent for improving the appearance of stretch marks. It will help the stretch marks to become smaller, tighter and flatter. It works by stimulating the production of collagen.

You will need a course of 10-12 treatments at 1-2 weekly intervals.

The ZO medical skincare range is very effective at treating pigmented scars. These products contain prescription medication and are only available from a qualified doctor, such as Dr Tailor at health + aesthetics.

Dermal fillers will help to lift the scar and are therefore an excellent treatment for pitted scars. This is a single treatment but it will need to be repeated at least annually.

This type of treatment is used to treat keloid and hypertrophic scars.
You will need a course of at least 3 treatments at 6 weekly intervals.

Stretch marks can be treated by a variety of methods. These include Rioblush Carboxytherapy, Endymed Intensif radiofrequency treatment and Dermapen (micro-needling) treatment. These will all result in the stretch mark looking flatter, tighter and better.
The stretch marks cannot be completely removed but will be dramatically improved through treatment.

Corticosteroid injections can be used to treat keloid and hypertrophic scars, which will result in the scar flattening and looking better. The scar cannot be completely removed but will be dramatically improved. You will need at least three treatments at 6 weekly intervals.

Most of the treatments work by stimulating the formation of new collagen in the skin. This natural process takes time, so results will usually only start to appear around 3 months after the first treatment.

You will then continue to see improvement for up to 6-8 months.

In the case of dermal fillers you will see immediate results. These will improve for 2-4 weeks after treatment.

Results can also be enhanced by using cosmeceutical anti-ageing skincare as well as high level, broad spectrum sun protection to reduce photo-damage.

Most of these treatments work by causing a controlled injury. This stimulates a healing response and ultimately the production of new collagen and elastin.
People differ in the way that they respond to the healing process. Some people will produce less collagen and elastin than others. Therefore it is difficult to predict the exact results of each treatment. However, the vast majority of our patients, who visit the clinic from throughout Surrey and Hampshire, report excellent results from their scar treatments.

"“NO SYSTEMIC ANAESTHETIC, NO CORSETS, NO BRUISING AND NO DOWNTIME. IT’S A NO BRAINER”I have never really had a waist as such. However, as I’ve got older any definition I did have was no longer there. I have never been overweight, I eat pretty healthily and do a reasonable amount of exercise. I have spent hundreds of pounds at various gyms and although they have done no harm I’ve never been able to shift anything from my midriff. As a healthcare professional, I am very aware of aesthetic procedures and have cared for many women who have had them. I, therefore, had a look on the internet to see what was now available that had good results and not too much down time. This is how I found CoolSculpting and the health + aesthetics practice in Farnham.I was extremely nervous about the whole process but was pleasantly surprised to find that the whole thing was explained well and addressed all my questions. On the day of the first procedure, I was all ready to back out but realised this was just crazy nerves! The procedure was mildly uncomfortable but I was able to read a magazine so that shows it wasn’t that bad! The clinic atmosphere is quiet and relaxed which rubs off on you.Everything that I was advised would happen when I got home did happen so I was reassured that things were going as they should. By late afternoon I had forgotten I had gone through anything. The only reminder was that my skin was cold to touch. This wore off fairly quickly.I returned to work and thought no more about it until my follow up 3 months later except that I started to notice that there was less flesh at the top of my jeans etc. and no roll of flesh under my bra. It was so gradual.I had two further procedures around the same area (2 treatments at a time) and have dropped two jean sizes – the purchase of a puppy may also have assisted the process as my exercise levels have quadrupled!!! Overall if you have a person who looks after themselves but has that stubborn area of fat that won’t shift then this is absolutely the procedure for you.The team at Farnham are professional, sensible and competent and pass on their confidence to you.For me, I feel more confident in my appearance as my clothes fit properly and with that, I am more confident in my overall life. From a financial perspective if you compare the cost of a package for CoolSculpting with a liposuction package it is much more affordable. Add to that no systemic anaesthetic, no corsets, no bruising and no downtime. It’s a no brainer and the outcomes are better in my view.Pauline (58)"

"REKHA GIVES GOOD HONEST ADVICEI have visited Rekha’s clinic many times over many years and have always been made to feel welcome. Rekha is a warm and caring person and lovely to talk to. One of the nicest things about Rekha is that I know she gives good honest advice. She is constantly going on courses and to conferences so is always up to date with new procedures. Two things that are very reassuring about Rekha is that she was a GP before she opened her clinics so you feel you are in safe hands and she is not afraid to turn people away if she feels a treatment is not right for you. Therefore, you know you are in safe hands and not going to receive any unnecessary or damaging treatments.Margaret"
