Acne doesn’t have to be something you just put up with, it can be treated and improved on. Read on to find out more.

What is acne?

There are a number of reasons why someone may suffer from this skin condition. For some spots and blemishes are an on-going issue. For others the problem can be temporary and fairly short lived. Acne can be caused by diet. High level of sugar is known to be linked to spots and blemishes. It can also be stress related or caused by make-up or hormonal imbalances. Changes in hormone levels is usually the cause of teenage version.

Put simply, it is inflammation of the skin, which is usually caused by blocked pores. There are a number of ways to treat it, and it isn’t something that you have to live with.

Treatment

At the health and aesthetics clinic, we regularly treat people who are suffering from acne and/or acne scarring. There’s not usually a ‘one size fits all’ option, and we take the time to fully understand your skin and why you are suffering from it, to determine the best treatment for you. The methods we use include:

Laser Treatment

The term ‘laser’ can be a little off-putting, but the reality is that laser treatment is a very effective way of improving your skin condition and you will only experience minor discomfort. Working by killing the bacteria which is causing the acne, laser treatment also helps to reduce sebum, which is the excess oil found in the skin that can also lead to spots. By reducing sebum and removing acne bacteria, the appearance of the skin is improved.

Skin Peels

Typically known is being used to improve ageing skin, chemical peels are also a great treatment for those suffering from other skin conditions. The peel works by exfoliating the surface layers of the skin, which forces the skin to develop new skin cells, helping to stop pores from becoming clogged. In addition, the chemical peel also kills acne bacteria.

Dermalux LED Light Therapy

This blue light therapy is another great option. Working to destroy this specific bacteria and normalise oil production, Dermalux Led Light Therapy reduces active acne in the skin and also prevents future breakouts.

ZO Medical Skincare

In addition to initial treatment of prone skin, we also offer on-going medical skincare treatment.
