The Most Effective Treatment for Fungal Nail Infections

The Most Effective Treatment for Fungal Nail Infections

POSTED ON: 26th June 2017

Fungal infections are very common in both fingernails and toenails. Whilst they are rarely serious, they can look unsightly and can be a devil to treat. Many over-the-counter treatments are not particularly effective. Oral medications can also cause liver problems and require regular blood tests.

Now at Health & Aesthetics, we have a brand new effective treatment for fungal nail infections, called the Harmony XL Pro. It eliminates stubborn nail infections for good quickly and effectively. It has been hailed as a breakthrough treatment and I have been impressed by the results we have seen in clinic after just a few short sessions.

The effective treatment for fungal nail infections from Health & Aesthetics is powerful because it targets the source of the infection beneath the nail plate. It uses laser light to destroy it by targeting the pigment in the fungus. Similarly that laser hair removal targets the pigment/melanin in the hair follicles to destroy them. What’s more, the treatment is safe, quick and non-invasive making it suitable for almost anyone.

What are Fungal Nail Infections?

The name sounds grim I know, but fungal nail infections are nothing to worry about. Typically this type of infection occurs more often in the toes than the finger. Athlete’s foot can spread to the nails effecting such an infection. Encased every day in socks and shoes, our feet provide the ideal warm conditions for otherwise harmless fungi or yeasts to grow. Over time the nail starts to change colour and this can sometimes lead to discomfort and pain. Some people suffer in silence like this for years and years.

What Is Harmony Xl Pro & How Is It an Effective Treatment for Fungal Nail Infections?

Prior to starting the treatment, we clean the nail to make sure it is clear of any nail varnish, creams and powder. Then, we move the hand-piece back and forth over the nail as the laser transmits light through the nail bed. The pigmented fungal cells absorb it which are then destroyed. We use a so-called fractional laser, it heats up only the area around the nail bed without affecting the surrounding skin.

How Long Does it Take?

Each session of this effective treatment for fungal nail infections typically takes around 20 – 30 minutes from start to finish, with the laser itself being used for only a couple of minutes. Most patients need about 3 – 4 treatments (spread 2 – 3 weeks apart) before the infection is cleared completely. Some patients describe the procedure as uncomfortable but very rarely painful. We can always pause and then resume the treatment once you feel more at ease. However, there is no downtime after the treatment and you will be able to return to work and everyday activity the same day.

After treatment, we ask that you do not to wear tight footwear for the first 48 hours. You should also apply an anti-fungal cream to the affected area twice daily for 3 months. Also, use an anti-fungal powder in your shoes.

Results are usually visible from the very first treatment and increase throughout the course until the infection is completely gone. The healthy nail will start to regrow in the weeks and months after treatment and should eventually look just entirely ‘back to normal’. Interested in before and after pictures of nails, please click here?

I would wholeheartedly recommend this treatment for anyone suffering from a persistent nail infection. I am delighted to be able to offer this as a new treatment here at Health & Aesthetics.

We provide the highest levels of care and attention and hope to welcome you at our clinic now and in the future.
