The cause of lines in the lips can be from many reasons. As we age, collagen production slows, causing volume loss leading to lines and wrinkles. In other cases, this is caused by environmental factors such as pollution and smoking.
Some patients come to us to balance their lips as they are not always perfectly symmetrical and balanced. Fillers are used here to balance and restore symmetry to the lip area and so restore facial harmony.
At Health & Aesthetics, we use fillers to restore lost volume to the lips. The fillers we use are FDA approved, meaning the safety and efficacy have been proven.
What are Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are used to treat lines and wrinkles in areas on the face and body which are affected by the loss of volume. By restoring such lost volume, you can plump and rejuvenate the treatment area. This can improve the overall structure of the face, and texture of the skin and restore hydration.
When used correctly, dermal fillers provide a natural appearance, making you look rejuvenated and refreshed.
“Very refreshing approach”, Female Patient (53)
“Dr Tailor very knowledgeable & gentle in her approach leaving you time to go away & have a think before embarking on any treatments. She gave a new insight into how my face can be refreshed without going down my usual wrinkle relaxing & Tear Trough route & it certainly worked!!! She’s incredibly engaging & has now put together a proper skin plan for me, & again for me to go away & have a read rather than being forced into anything. Very refreshing approach & reassuring that there are some decent cosmetic surgeons out there. A worthwhile trip for sure & someone I believe I’ll be with for a while as this was my first experience of the clinic.”

Frequently Asked Questions
The procedure shouldn’t hurt but you may feel a sharp pinch as the needle is inserted. Everyone’s pain threshold is different, but when administered correctly there should be minimal pain.
We will sometimes use a local anaesthetic cream to your lip area. This is applied 15 mins before the procedure to numb the area and minimise any discomfort. We use the latest dermal fillers as these contain numbing. We also use the finest needles for precision injecting and to minimise any discomfort.
A few days after the procedure your lips may feel slightly firmer to the touch than normal. Later on, they will gradually soften as the fillers settle in place and any swelling subsides. Normal activities such as eating, drinking and kissing will feel no different to before having fillers.
There are very few side effects for lip fillers. Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body so problems such as allergic reactions are very rare.
When things go wrong, it’s often because an inexperienced practitioner has done the procedure. These issues can include lumps and bumps, oversized or uneven lips, numbness to the lips and even skin necrosis.
If the practitioner does not administer the injections correctly, there is a risk of skin necrosis. For this reason it is vital to only have the procedure done by an experienced medical professional. Dr Rekha Tailor is a medical doctor who has extensive anatomical knowledge. Therefore, she regularly keeps herself up-to-date by attending anatomy courses.
The most common side effect of having the procedure is bruising, swelling and slight bleeding around the lip area. However, this doesn’t mean the procedure has ‘gone wrong’, as these are the body’s natural response to have the procedure done. The extent of these side effects will vary from patient to patient. If the procedure has been done correctly, they should be minimal.
Hyaluronic acid fillers work by attracting water from the surrounding tissues, helping the skin to retain moisture which adds plumpness, smooths lines and restores volume. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be used almost anywhere on the body, including the face, nose, lips, neck, décolletage and hands. These fillers are fully reversible and can be easily removed if required. At Health & Aesthetics we use only the safest and highest quality hyaluronic acid fillers which are FDA approved.
This is entirely dependent on the treatment area, the volume needed and the desired results. This will be discussed prior to any treatment in your consultation.
The treatment takes about 30 minutes to an hour. Afterwards, you will see the results straight away. Moreover, the effects will last between 6 months and 2 years, depending upon the areas treated and the filler used.
It is important that prior to any treatment, that you avoid any products that thin your blood and can cause bruising around the injection site. After injection, it is important not to touch the area due to the risk of introducing infection into the area.
