Eyebrows have the power to transform a face, accentuating and drawing attention to your eyes, and for many people, well-shaped eyebrows are at the core of a daily grooming routine.

But eyebrows age too, and it’s not all down to changes in the way the hair grows. (Though, yes, we all know that moment when we look in the mirror and spot the wayward sprouts that weren’t there this morning!)

As we age, changes in our skin tone and facial structure can make the brow appear to droop. It can seem heavier; ‘hooding’ our eyes and making us look tired or depressed.

But is it really all about ‘brow droop’? It’s actually a little more complicated.

Usually, what’s actually happening is change to the face immediately underneath, above and around the brow. A reduction in fullness and volume due to reduced collagen production and loss of fatty tissue results in the appearance of loose, drooping skin around the eyes and on the forehead.

The good news is that at Health & Aesthetics there are several treatments we can use to lift the brow and eye – so a surgical facelift is definitely not your only, or even your best, answer!

Here are our favourite three ways to take your brow from ‘ow’ to ‘wow’…

Using Ultherapy to ‘lift’ the brow

Ultherapy offers the effects of a facelift without surgery, and is so quick it’s often known as the ‘lunchtime lift’. It’s ideal for treating and tightening the brow and delicate surrounding areas, because it’s so targeted.

Ultherapy uses Micro-Focussed Ultrasound (MFU) to target a specific, pin-point area. It works by creating micro-wounds in the layers of the dermis, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in a lifted and rejuvenated appearance to the skin.

Health & Aesthetics is an Ultherapy Centre of Excellence. Check out our Ultherapy page for some before and after photos showing the difference it can make to your brow.

The ClearLift Laser Facelift

An alternative way to lift the upper face and give you back your ‘wow brow’ is the ClearLift Laser Facelift, also known as the Hollywood Laser FaceLift. It’s one of the latest laser treatments on the market, and is proving popular for plumping and firming skin – partly because of the great results patients see, but also because each treatment only takes around 20 mins, so it’s another option for a ‘lunchtime lift’.

It uses a laser that penetrates up to 3mm into the skin, and, like Ultherapy it creates tiny wounds which stimulate a healing response – producing more collagen and elastic which regenerate the skin. Because it targets the lower layers of the skin (the dermis), there’s virtually no pain and no visible damage.

Using Fillers to plump and rejuvenate the eye and brow area

Another great way to tackle the loss of volume that can cause in saggy, tired-looking brows is to use fillers to restore volume and hydration to the skin. The results when used to target the brow area and the temples can make you look less tired and more youthful.

In the brow and temple area fillers are used to restore lost volume and lift the brows.

At Health & Aesthetics we use Juvederm and Belotero fillers, as they are FDA approved giving us and you the reassurance that they’ve been proven to be both safe and effective.

If you are considering fillers, remember that, right now in the UK, pretty much anyone can give you injectable treatments, as it’s entirely unregulated. With any filler, but particularly around the delicate eye area, you should always make sure your practitioner is a properly trained, medical doctor with detailed knowledge of facial anatomy. Done by the right person, with the right experience – like our own Dr Rekha and Dr Sonia – fillers can get amazing results and be perfectly safe. Our call for regulation of the injectables industry.

Your daily ‘wow brow’ routine

To maintain the effect of the treatments you choose, we recommend adjusting your daily routine to take care of the delicate skin around the eye area, and there are some amazing products around.

ZO Skin Health Intense Eye Crème combines retinol and advanced peptides to improve tone and texture, reduce the appearance and fine lines and wrinkles, and combat puffiness and inflammation.

Skinade’s award-winning formula contains vitamins and Hydrolysed Marine Collagen Peptides in a drink, which stimulates your body to create more skin-rejuvenating collagen, nourishing your skin from the inside out. We recommend it as a daily addition to your beauty routine.
