Many people feel that their jaw is too large and heavy and wish that their face is heart-shaped rather than square or round-shaped. Some people also feel that their jaw is clenched even when they are relaxed. It can give a more masculine and aggressive appearance.
A large or square jaw can be due to an over developed masseter muscle which adds bulk to the jaw. These muscles have been over-developed due to excessive chewing or grinding the teeth especially at night.
The jawline can be slimmed by injecting Botox into the masseter muscle which weakens the muscle. As the muscles relax, the square heavy jawline softens. This results is a softer, friendlier appearance.
Treatment involves injecting Botox, which is a muscle relaxant, into the masseter muscle. The Botox is injected into the muscle using a thin needle. These injections block the signals from the nerve in the masseter muscle.
The results are visible a few days after treatment with a more relaxed and slimmer jawline. Results last for 5-6 months.
Over time, the muscle relaxant will wear off, the muscles regain their strength and the jawline will become heavier again. In order to maintain a slimmer appearance of the jaw, regular injections of Botox will be needed.
Minor complications, immediately after treatment such as redness, swelling, bruising and tenderness are very common. These will disappear. Avoid rubbing the side of the face for up to 12 hours and cannot lie down up to 3-4 hours. These actions can cause the Botox to move resulting in complications.
Let’s face it, most people have heard of CoolSculpting or at the very least, Fat Freezing….
