ULTRAcel or Ultherapy – what is the difference? We often find that patients are unsure about the difference between the highly effective and FDA approved Ultherapy skin tightening treatment that we offer here at health + aesthetics and other treatments like ULTRAcel. So we thought it would be useful to explain.

ULTRAcel vs Ultherapy

health + aesthetics is the only clinic in Surrey and Hampshire to offer Ultherapy treatment, which is the only FDA-approved procedure to ‘lift’ skin using ultrasound. Hence this is an excellent treatment for lifting jowls, tightening the neck, treating hooded eyes and crepey decolletage.

Unlike any other treatment, Ultherapy has both US FDA Clearance and the European CE Mark IIa conformity standard.

In order to pass these rigorous assessments, the device has undergone numerous clinical trials, over a long period of time, to demonstrate that it is both safe and effective.  To date, over 100,000 Ultherapy treatments have been carried out worldwide, which is testament to its success.

The Ultherapy device uses only ultrasound which is targeted at different depths in the skin. This results is collagen and elastin production in the different layers of the skin which causes the tissues to tighten and contract and hence lifts and tightens.

Ultherapy Ultrasound Treatment Depths

What is ULTRAcel?

  • The ULTRAcel machine does not have FDA approval which means there are no American trials regarding safety and results.
  • The ULTRAcel machine cannot scan, so there is no visualisation of the area before treatment.
  • The ULTRAcel machine uses radiofrequency (using needles and a grid) to target the upper layers of the skin. This device does not deliver ultrasound to the upper layers of the skin.
  • The ULTRAcel machine uses needles and a grid and hence it is a more invasive treatment with a longer recovery time.

The treatment uses ultrasound energy to help tighten and lift sagging skin. It is a popular treatment for lifting jowls, tightening the neck, treating hooded eyes and crepey decolletage. It can be used almost anywhere on the face: the most popular sites being the jawline, brow, neck and décolletage.

Ultherapy – FDA approved machine – safe & effective

The treatment is loved by a host of famous faces and is a fantastic alternative to invasive surgical techniques, as it achieves natural and long-lasting results without any of the pain or recovery time afterwards.  It is often described as ‘the lunchtime lift’ because of the speed and effectiveness of the procedure.

The ultrasound is administered precisely in the skin via a bespoke handheld device. This stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin which causes the tissue layers to tighten and contract, creating a lifting effect. It also helps to restore youthful radiance and elasticity to the skin.

During treatment, images of the tissue layers can be seen clearly on screen so, unlike treatments like ULTRAcel, we can accurately target the areas in most need of rejuvenation. You may experience slight discomfort, but there is no pain, no needles and no incisions.

You can return to normal life immediately afterwards and no one will know.  The effects will gradually appear over the following weeks and months, as it takes a while for your skin to produce new collagen and elastin.  However, the final results can be almost as good as a surgical facelift and last for 18 months to 2 years.
