What are Polynucleotides?
Dr. Rekha Tailor applying Polynucleotides under the eyes to enhance skin elasticity and texture

Restore your youthful glow

During the ageing process, collagen and elastin – proteins which are essential in maintaining firm skin – diminish, leading to fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. Polynucleotides help to stimulate these proteins, reversing the impact of ageing and leaving you with a smoother texture and a fresh-faced, well-rested appearance.

Improve skin hydration and health

Polynucleotides stimulate fibroblasts to produce more collagen and hyaluronic acid. This process helps to improve hydration and retain moisture, offering a perfect solution for dry and dehydrated skin that needs a boost. Polynucleotides also have antioxidant properties, collecting free radicals that accumulate in the skin as a result of stress, cell damage, UV rays, and pollution.

This hydrating and antioxidant effect creates the optimal environment for fibroblast growth, leaving you with skin that feels healthier and looks replenished.

Reduce scarring and pigmentation

By helping to enhance skin texture, polynucleotides can reduce the appearance of acne scars and leave you with a more even skin tone. What’s more, polynucleotides are also showing immense potential to improve a wide range of skin conditions, including hyperpigmentation (such as brown spots, sun spots, or age-related marks), rosacea, and redness.

Expect minimal downtime

With each procedure lasting roughly 30 minutes, polynucleotide treatments can be easily slotted into your daily life. Even better, due to its non-surgical nature, polynucleotide treatments have very little side effects. This means you should be able to return to everyday life straight away, making it a convenient solution with little interruption.

Treatment process

  • Before treatment, a doctor will take you through our full medical consultation to get an understanding of your needs and to answer any queries you may have. From this, we can develop a bespoke treatment plan which will best target your unique requirements and allow for natural results.
  • When you come in for treatment, your doctor will administer the treatment in your targeted areas. This should take around 30 minutes.
  • After treatment, your doctor may discuss any aftercare needs, but you should be able to return to daily activities straight away. It’s important to refrain from touching the treatment area to help prevent the risk of infection.

Most people need 4 treatments spaced over 2-4 weeks.

FAQs

Are there any side effects of polynucleotide treatments?

There may be very mild swelling, bruising, or small bumps at the injection site after treatment. This is generally easily concealed with makeup and should go away after 2-3 days, making polynucleotides a practical choice for many.

What’s the science behind polynucleotide treatments?

Polynucleotides are chains of nucleotides, which are the building blocks of DNA. These chains stimulate the fibroblast cells to allow for more collagen and elastin production, helping to heal and repair tissues, reduce inflammation, reduce pigmentation, and promote hydration.

These polynucleotides also have an anti-free radical action, helping to counteract and protect the skin from factors such as the sun and stress.

In this sense, polynucleotides are a regenerative treatment, changing the expression of DNA to encourage the body’s natural mechanisms to generate healthier skin cells and produce essential skin proteins like collagen and elastin.

Polynucleotide injectables are made from fish (generally salmon or trout) DNA as this closely mirrors human DNA. No extracts of fish remain and you can even have this treatment if allergic to fish.

Am I suitable for this treatment?

Polynucleotides are a safe and effective treatment for most people, treating a range of concerns, including aged skin, rosacea, hyperpigmentation, dull or dehydrated skin, and acne scarring.

As polynucleotides are a bio-stimulator derived from salmon DNA, the treatment is not recommended for those who are vegetarian or vegan.

When should I see results and how long should they last?

You should expect to see results within three months of completing the course of treatments and results should last for six months after this. Most people then go on to have single maintenance treatments every three to four months.

What brand of Polynucleotides do you use?

We offer both Plinest and Newest at Health and Aesthetics.
