What is Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a technique used to smooth the skin, improve its texture, reduce scarring and pigmentation and help with skin’s health and tone. We work closely with ZO Skin Health who are leaders in the cosmeceutical skincare market and produce some of the most effective skinceuticals on the market.

Stimulator Peel – this is a gentle peel perfect for those looking to refresh and rejuvenate their skin. The stimulator peel stimulates the cell turnover reducing fine lines and wrinkles and skin tone. This is considered a lunchtime peel and will leave you with a glowing and more rejuvenated skin.

Three Step Peel – this is a less aggressive chemical peel specifically designed to combat fine lines and wrinkles and even out skin tone. This uses a cream to numb the area if requested by the patient (however this is optional)

Controlled Depth Peel – this is perfect for those with scarring, severe laxity and texture damage. It is also perfect for those suffering with melasma and severe sun damage. Anesthesia is injected to make this treatment more comfortable.

Chemical peels work by penetrating the superficial layers of the skin to give a clearer, smoother, complexion with improved hydration and a youthful glow. We use combinations of lactic, glycolic and salicylic acids in these peels as well as trichloroacetic acid in our deep peels.

Frequently Asked Questions

Gentle exfoliative peels freshen the skin, while deep peels can smooth, tighten and correct skin problems. They can be used to treat a variety of skin conditions including:

  • Sun-damaged skin
  • Lines and wrinkles
  • Acne
  • Brown spots
  • Melasma
  • Oily skin
  • Acne scarring
  • Redness
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Dry skin

We tailor peels to the individual, dependent on whether a gentle or more dramatic result is desired and on whether you can accommodate shedding of the skin or prefer a peel procedure to go unnoticed.

This depends on the results you desire and the current condition of the skin. We recommend that most patients have a course of peels if the peels are lighter as the results are cumulative. A Controlled Depth Peel can be done once a year.

These gentle peels penetrate the superficial layers of the skin to give a clearer, smoother complexion with improved hydration and a youthful glow. One treatment will brighten the skin, but a course will reduce pigmentation, wrinkles, acne and breakouts. These treatments are easy to fit into daily life because there is usually only mild dryness after the procedure and no downtime.

We use combinations of lactic, glycolic, and salicylic acids in these peels.

These stronger peels penetrate more deeply and can achieve dramatic results including skin tightening and reduction of sun damage, pigmentation, fine lines, open pores and scarring. Some visible peeling occurs for 3-7 days after the procedure.
We use trichloroacetic acid in these peels.

The ZO Stimulator peel from the ZO Range is different since there is not much downtime but the results are remarkable. The 3 Step Stimulator Peel has 3 Steps.

Step 1 – Salicyclic acid, Lactic acid and Trichloroacetic acid.
Then during

Step 2 your therapist applies 6% Retinol directly after the peel and then 6 hours later some more.

Step 3 – We apply a calming cream straight after the peel and then several times for 5 days after the peel.
This peel will improve all of the conditions discussed above.

Modern chemical peels are NOT painful or burning. Skin peels are a relaxing and pleasant experience. Our peels are very effective but gentle enough not to cause much flaking.

There is a small amount of downtime from the chemical peels depending on the treatment undertaken this would be:

Stimulator – no downtime

3 Step Peel – 5 days

Controlled Depth – 7 days

For those looking to resurface their skin they can look for the iPixel erbium or CO2 lasers. Both resurface the skin, leaving you with smoother skin, less wrinkles and more refined pores. They are also brilliant for those looking to reduce the appearance of scarring.

In order to maintain your results from your chemical peel, we would recommend monthly treatments of our Bespoke Medicated Hydrafacials. This will not only maintain, but further improve the appearance of your skin and treat lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, acne, and rosacea.

When used alongside Cosmeceuticals, Chemical Peels can accelerate results for a range of skin issues. Chemical peels also work well with laser treatments (once your skin has finished healing) to further tackle issues such as ageing, pigmentation and skin quality.
