Profhilo

Profhilo is a pure hyaluronic acid which treats skin laxity and improves skin health. It is often mistaken for a filler, but it does not restore lost volume. Instead, Profhilo hydrates the skin and triggers collagen and elastin production. It results in the bio-remodelling of the skin and dramatically improves the quality of the skin.

Profhilo can effectively reduce and even cure wrinkles if the full course is undertaken. It boosts the natural production of four different types of collagen and elastin from within the skin. Profhilo is revolutionary as rather than sitting where it is injected, it interacts and moves with your tissues causing the weaker areas to regenerate. This is why Profhilo has been celebrated as a bio-rejuvenator, bio-revitaliser and tissue stimulator.

It is important to remember that Profhilo is not like a dermal filler as it does not restore volume, however it is perfect for those looking for a natural improvement in skin’s quality and an excellent solution to those with crepey skin on the face and neck.

About Health & Aesthetics Clinic
Nucleofill in Surrey

What is Profhilo?

The science behind Profhilo is fascinating. Prof. Chiara Schiraldi and Prof. Mario de Rosa developed the technology at the Second University of Naples. It is the first stabilised hyaluronic acid based product without the use of chemical cross-linking agents (BDDE). During the process, low and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid bond together using a patented completely chemical-free, thermal process that confers structural and rheologic stability. By creating these natural bonds, hyaluronic acid fillers are stabilised and confer longevity, meaning they don’t break down within a week or two of injection.

As a result, Profhilo is an excellent option for the earlier prevention of lines, wrinkles and loss of volume as a result of ageing and reduction in collagen and elastin in the skin.

Profhilo won’t produce lumps and bumps and therefore is fantastic for areas like the neck where fillers can’t provide as much of a flawless, smooth solution.

Profhilo can flow freely through the dermis and subcutaneous tissues in a way that traditional hyaluronic acid fillers cannot. This means that it has exceptional results for areas that are difficult to treat with fillers such as the forehead, hands inner arms and neck.

I have been coming to Health &. Aesthetics for several years. For anyone who wants to slow down the agent process, and have their skin looking the best it can be, I cannot recommend Dr Taylor and her aestheticians highly enough. They are extremely knowledgeable, professional and personable. The hydrofacials leave my skin looking and feeling fantastic. It’s so well worth it.

FAQs

How is it made?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are typically stabilised by crosslinking with 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE), to confer longevity. Otherwise, they would break down and eliminate within a week or two of injection.

How much hyaluronic acid is available?

Profhilo is available in one formulation – 64mg of hyaluronic acid in a 2ml pre-filled syringe (32mg of high molecular weight hyaluronic acid + 32mg of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid).

Owing to this new technology it was possible to combine 32mg of low molecular weight hyaluronic acid (80 – 100 KDa) and 32mg of high molecular weight hyaluronic acid (1100 – 1400 KDa) while maintaining complete manageability. It results in a total concentration of 64mg of hyaluronic acid which has never been achieved before precisely because of technological limitations. This process does not involve the use of chemical cross-linking agents and the final product, Profhilo, is pure hyaluronic acid. The formulation of hyaluronic acid with different molecular weights contained in Profhilo means that it has a Hydrolift® Action and makes it easy to inject. Studies of Profhilo have also shown significant up-regulation of collagen and elastin production. These are an outcome by both fibroblasts and keratinocytes resulting in minimal tissue inflammation.

How do we inject Profhilo?

Dr Tailor delivers the treatment to the face using the 5-point BAP (Bio Aesthetic Points) technique, the optimum method for placement of the product. We use the 5 injection points on each side of the face, away from major vessels, nerves etc. in such a way as to maximise the ‘spreadability’ of the product through diffuse regions of the cheek and jawline.

The product flows and distributes itself evenly. Moreover, it is integrating within your skin’s tissue without resistance (rather than remaining at the same place). Therefore, this makes it naturally a much less painful procedure than dermal fillers.

Profhilo won’t produce lumps and bumps in these or other areas. Even if we inject it as a bolus, it flows freely into the tissue and moves completely naturally and fills them evenly within 24 to 48 hours. Profhilo’s unsurpassed level of tissue integration and biocompatibility is due to its unique manufacturing process.

While most dermal fillers contain local anaesthetic such as lidocaine to assist in a pain-free procedure, we do not need to use any for Profhilo injections. We also us a minute needle which means that the skin is generally free from marks and bruises.

How many treatments will I need?

We recommend an initial treatment plan of 2-3 treatments every 1 month followed by maintenance every 3 to 4 months.

Does it prevent wrinkles?

It’s important to note that Profhilo is an excellent option for the earlier prevention of lines, wrinkles, and loss of volume. Beyond the teens, due to genetic or intrinsic ageing, we lose collagen and elastin from the dermis. This results in our skin becoming thinner and less elastic.

Prevention is better than cure i.e. it is best to take action sooner. Also, it is useful to prevent wrinkles from forming and becoming more entrenched. This helps to maintain the best results for longer. Moreover it means there is less need for future treatment when you maintain your good skin health.

What is the aftercare?

The needle for Profhilo is extremely small meaning the skin is generally free from marks and bruises, as long as pre-treatment advice is followed. There tends to be no pain with Profhilo, although it can be mildly uncomfortable.

What are the potential side-effects?

Transient redness, pain, itching, discolouration or tenderness at the implant site.

Is it temporary or permanent?

Hyaluronic acid completely brakes down within the skin leaving no trace.
