What is Cutera Excel V+ Laser?

Pigmentation laser treatment is performed with our FDA-approved Cutera Excel V+ laser. The Excel V+ laser uses a high-power green laser in order to target blood vessels and pigment with abnormalities. The excel V+ laser treatment works through the targeted application of clinically proven laser wavelengths. We target these wavelengths to specific areas of skin concern and work to diminish uneven tone and stimulate rejuvenation.

The wide range of conditions that this treatment can address includes pigmentation, facial redness, Rosacea, port wine stains, leg veins, keloid scars, sun damage pigmentation, and venous lakes (purple lesions on the lips). Unlike some other lasers, there is no anaesthesia required during the procedure, thanks to the automatic cooling technology, which produces continuous cooling throughout your treatment, maximising patient comfort.

All skin types can benefit from treatment from the Excel V+ laser (1-6).

How does the treatment work?

Excel V+ Laser treatment uses laser energy to target pigmentation on the skin. The energy within the laser targets the pigmented cells, drawing them to the surface without harming surrounding tissues. The area of pigment will appear darker after treatment and will then flake away over time as part of natural cell turnover.

Will I be suitable for treatment?

You will need to attend for an assessment to check if you are suitable for treatment and how many sessions are needed. Any skin type (1-6) can be treated with this laser.

What are the side-effects?

The treatment is not painful and at most you may notice slight discomfort.

Depending upon your skin type (and the lesion we treat), there is redness and swelling in the treated area for up to 2-3 days after treatment. However, we can significantly reduce the swelling and enhance the healing by having Dermalux LED Light Therapy immediately after the laser treatment.

The treated area may also appear darker for 5-7 days after treatment but this will clear shortly afterwards.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Most areas of the body can be treated with the Excel V+ laser.

What else can I do?

Using ZO Skin Health by Dr Zein Obagi is essential for those wishing to diminish pigmentation. Although this laser treats superficial pigmentation, patients with deeper pigmentation, which is usually to due hormonal imbalance such as melasma, or post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation due to inflammation, can be treated with a combination of skincare products and deep skin peels. By using retinol-based products (ZO Skin Health Skin Brightener 0.25%, 0.5% or 1%) alongside other ZO Skin Health products, the deep pigmentation can be effectively treated and reverses the aging effects of sun damage and pigmentation.
