What is SkinPen?

SkinPen is a small device with 12 microneedles which can go to a depth of between 0.25mm to 2.5mm depending on the treatment area. This means the practitioner can treat more areas of the face and body and get more targeted results especially for the eye, mouth and nose areas. As it is a pen, it uses vertical movement only for the needling process. This means there is less drag on the skin in comparison to other microneedles especially those on rolling devices, which causes drag and trauma to the skin.

The SkinPen, which is the device used at Health & Aesthetics can produce 1300 holes per second in the skin which massively enhances the effectiveness while giving a safe rejuvenation to the skin.

SkinPen can be used on all skin types so is an excellent option for those with darker skin who are unable to treat their skin conditions with laser due to the high risk of pigmentation.

Why must skin be prepped with skincare before Skinpen treatment?

Skin needs to be prepped with recommended skincare for a minimum of 6 weeks ahead of treatment. Skincare products help to remove dirt, oils, and impurities as well as layers of dead skin ensuring the skin is clear and hydrated ready to absorb the benefits of the treatment. Prepping the skin reduces the risks of pigmentation post treatment, enhances results and improves recovery.

How many treatments will I need?

In general, we recommend a course of 3 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. However, for those looking to treat acne scars we would likely recommend a longer course of up to 6 sessions to give the best results to our patients.

What aftercare is required for SkinPen?

After the procedure, your body will start to naturally regenerate and repair the skin. Your body will form new collagen and elastin, generate new skin cells and enhance the blood supply.

It can take up to 12 weeks before you will experience visible signs of regeneration and repair and the process will continue over the following months resulting in gradual and long-lasting improvements to your skin.

What else can I do?

To further improve the skin, we would recommend that the patients use ZO Skin Health to further improve the skin’s quality and incorporating Retinols into their routine to further reduce lines and wrinkles or improve the appearance of scars.

Dermalux LED light therapy is excellent at helping to rejuvenate the skin and boost collagen production to boost the SkinPen results, while helping with healing.
