Dermal Fillers
Looking to rejuvenate your appearance but keep a natural and authentic image? At Health & Aesthetics, we are proud to offer premium quality dermal filler treatments that can subtly yet effectively refresh your look.
HarmonyCa is a treatment that sits in a category of its own: it is neither a traditional filler nor a pure skin booster, but something that does both jobs at once.
The treatment combines hyaluronic acid with calcium hydroxyapatite in a single injection. The HA gives immediate structure and hydration; the CaHA stimulates your own collagen production over the following weeks and months. The result is skin that looks better and, more importantly, skin that actually is better: firmer, more hydrated, with improved texture. It tends to suit people who are noticing the early signs of volume loss and skin quality changes and want to address both at the same time.
Loss of facial volume. Improving jowls and sagging, addressing lines and wrinkles.
Very little with mild swelling and possibly mild bruising. This can be easily concealed with make-up.
One treatment session. Results can last for up to 18 months.
Keloid scarring. Active cold sores. Active infection. Anti-coagulants. Pregnancy & breast-feeding.
Improves early signs of volume loss and improves skin quality.
HarmonyCa is a hybrid injectable which combines two ingredients that have long track records in aesthetics. Hyaluronic acid, which most people are familiar with from dermal fillers and skin boosters, and Calcium hydroxyapatite, better known in the UK as the active ingredient in Radiesse.
What makes HarmonyCa different is that these two components are combined in a single product, injected in a single session. The hyaluronic acid provides immediate structural support and volume. The calcium hydroxyapatite particles act as a scaffold that triggers your own fibroblasts to produce new collagen over time. You see an immediate improvement on the day, and then a further, gradual improvement over the following weeks as the collagen response builds.
It is worth being clear about what HarmonyCa does not do. It will not correct deep structural volume loss in the way that multiple syringes of traditional filler might. And it is not a one-and-done treatment: like most injectables, results are temporary and maintenance matters. What it does, for the right patient, is deliver a genuinely meaningful improvement in skin quality and mild volume loss in a single treatment, with results that continue to develop over months.
HarmonyCa is a versatile product but it has a particular sweet spot: it works best in areas where you want to address both skin quality and mild volume loss at the same time, rather than purely adding structure. Here is where I use it most often.
This is probably the most common area and the one where HarmonyCa really demonstrates its dual action. As we age, the midface loses volume and the skin quality changes simultaneously. HarmonyCa addresses both: it restores a subtle fullness to the cheeks and improves the texture and firmness of the overlying skin. The effect is a fresher, more lifted appearance without that overdone look that comes from over-filling.
Along the jawline, HarmonyCa can help restore definition that has been softened with age and improve skin quality in the jowl area. It is not a replacement for surgical lifting if you have significant laxity, and I will be honest with you about that at the consultation. But for early-stage changes, it can be genuinely effective.
The hands are one of the most reliable giveaways of age and one of the areas where patients often say they wish they had done something sooner. HarmonyCa improves the skin quality and can add a modest amount of volume over the dorsum, making veins and tendons less prominent. It is a treatment I find underused relative to how effective it is.
Some patients come to me not with a specific area in mind, but with a general sense that their skin looks tired, dull, or has lost the quality it used to have. HarmonyCa can be used across multiple areas in a single session to address this, working on overall hydration, firmness and radiance at the same time. Think of it as treating the skin rather than just the structure beneath it.
HarmonyCa is a prescription-only device, and it should only ever be administered by a doctor with a thorough understanding of facial anatomy and injectable technique. At this clinic, that means me.
But the consultation is about more than compliance. I need to know your medical history, understand what is actually bothering you, and see how your face looks and moves before I can make a sensible recommendation. HarmonyCa is a versatile treatment but it is not the answer to every concern. There are patients for whom a different filler, a skin booster, or a combination approach would give a better result, and I would rather tell you that than treat you with something that is not quite right.
I also think the consultation matters for you. You should have the chance to ask questions, understand exactly what is involved, and decide whether you want to proceed without feeling any pressure. I do not offer same-day treatments to new patients, and I think that is the right policy.
Consultation first, always
Every new patient starts with a proper consultation before anything else. I need to understand your medical history, what you’re hoping to achieve, and whether HarmonyCa is actually the right treatment for you. Sometimes it is; occasionally there’s something that would work better or complement it. That conversation shapes everything.
Prescription and consent
HarmonyCa contains hyaluronic acid and is classed as a prescription-only device in my clinic. We go through full written consent together before any treatment: what you can expect, what the risks are, and what happens if you have concerns about the result.
The treatment itself
Treatment usually takes 45 to 60 minutes. I use a fine cannula and sometimes a needle depending on the area. There is some discomfort, though the product contains lidocaine which helps. Mild swelling and tenderness afterwards is normal and settles within a few days. Most patients are back to their usual routine the next day.
Aftercare
I will give you aftercare instructions before you leave. Avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24 hours, skip intense heat (saunas, steam rooms) for a week, and don’t massage the treated area. Sun protection is important in the weeks after treatment. That’s the main list for most people.
Review
I see patients usually around the 6-week after treatment. It gives me a chance to assess the outcome properly and discuss whether any refinement would be useful.
One of the things I appreciate about HarmonyCa is that the results story is straightforward: you see an immediate improvement on the day of treatment, and then a further improvement over the following weeks as the collagen stimulation kicks in. Most patients see the full result by around 10 to 12 weeks, and I always encourage people to reserve their final judgment until then.
How long the results last varies. The structural improvement typically holds for around 12 to 18 months; the skin quality benefits can persist for longer as the new collagen that has been produced does not disappear overnight. Patients who maintain with repeat treatments tend to accumulate a progressive improvement over time, which is one of the more satisfying aspects of this product.
I will always give you an honest assessment at follow-up. If I think the result could be improved, I will say so. If I think you are done and do not need to come back for a year, I will say that too.
HarmonyCa has a good safety profile when it is used correctly. The most common side effects are swelling, tenderness and bruising at the injection sites, all of which are expected and settle within a few days to a week. Some patients experience temporary firmness or lumpiness in the treated area, which resolves as the product integrates.
More serious complications are rare but possible with any injectable treatment, and I will discuss them with you at consultation. Vascular occlusion is the most significant risk with any injectable in the face, and it is one of the reasons that the experience and anatomical knowledge of your practitioner genuinely matters. I have the training and the equipment to manage this if it occurs.
If any of these apply or you are unsure, just mention it when you book. That is exactly what the consultation is for.
I qualified as a doctor at Manchester Medical School and spent years working in NHS hospitals and general practice before moving into aesthetics full-time in 2005. That background isn’t just a line on a CV: it genuinely shapes how I work.
I’m a GP first. That means I think about the whole patient, not just the concern they’ve booked in for. I’m used to taking thorough histories, spotting things that don’t quite add up, and having difficult conversations when I think something isn’t right. Those habits don’t disappear in an aesthetic setting; if anything, they’re more important.
I’m also cautious by nature. I would rather under-treat and have you come back for a top-up than overdo it and leave you with a result you’re not happy with. In twenty years I haven’t changed my mind about that.

A standard filler like Teoxane or Revanesse works by adding volume: it sits where you inject it and fills in the space. HarmonyCa does that, but it also contains calcium hydroxyapatite particles that stimulate your own collagen production. So you get the immediate structural result you would expect from a filler, plus a biological response that continues to improve the skin quality over the following months. It is more of a skin remodelling treatment than a straightforward volume replacement.
Profhilo is a pure skin booster: it spreads through the tissue, improving hydration and triggering some collagen and elastin production, but it does not add volume. HarmonyCa does both. If your main concern is skin quality and hydration, Profhilo might be enough. If you are also noticing some structural change, losing definition or early volume loss, HarmonyCa addresses both in one treatment. Which one is right for you is something I would assess at consultation.
Polynucleotides and HarmonyCa are both regenerative in their approach, but they work through different mechanisms and tend to suit slightly different concerns. Polynucleotides work by stimulating cellular repair and regeneration: they are particularly good for improving skin quality at a deeper biological level, addressing fine texture, tone, pigmentation and the kind of tired, crepey skin that does not respond well to volume-based treatments. HarmonyCa combines immediate structural support with collagen stimulation, so it is doing two jobs at once. If your main concern is skin quality and cellular renewal with no interest in adding any volume at all, polynucleotides might be the better starting point. If you want to address both skin quality and mild structural change in a single treatment, HarmonyCa tends to be more efficient. The two also combine well: I use them together in patients who want a more comprehensive skin rejuvenation result, and the outcomes are often better than either treatment alone. Which approach is right for you is something I would assess properly at consultation.
There is some discomfort. The product contains lidocaine, which helps, but this is a more substantial injection than a skin booster, and some areas are more sensitive than others. Most patients tolerate it very well, and I do everything I can to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. I would not describe it as painful, but I would not say it is nothing either.
The structural result typically lasts around 12 to 18 months. The skin quality improvement can persist longer because the new collagen that has been produced remains in the tissue. Patients who maintain with repeat treatments tend to see a cumulative improvement. At your follow-up I will give you an honest picture of how your response looks and what I would recommend.
That depends on the areas we are treating and the degree of change you want. One syringe is often enough for a single area; treating multiple areas in one session typically requires two. I will discuss my recommendation with you at consultation and explain my reasoning. I would rather be clear about what is needed than undertreat and leave you disappointed.
Yes, and it often makes sense to do so. Anti-wrinkle injections and HarmonyCa complement each other very well: one addresses dynamic lines caused by muscle movement, the other addresses volume and skin quality. HarmonyCa and a traditional filler can also be combined if there is more significant structural work needed. I will always discuss the options at consultation and give you my honest recommendation.
Most patients experience some swelling and tenderness for a few days after treatment. Bruising is possible, particularly in more vascular areas. The worst of the swelling usually settles within 48 to 72 hours, though some mild puffiness can persist for up to a week. Most people are comfortable returning to work the next day, though I would not plan this treatment immediately before a major event.
You will see an immediate improvement on the day of treatment, but the final result develops over 10 to 12 weeks as the collagen response builds. I always ask patients to wait until this point before making any judgments. A lot of people are pleasantly surprised by how much continues to improve after the first few weeks.
HarmonyCa is a prescription-only device and should only be administered by a doctor with proper training and anatomical knowledge. Beyond the regulatory side, injectables in the face carry real risks if administered incorrectly. A thorough understanding of facial anatomy, the ability to recognise and manage complications, and the habit of assessing the whole patient rather than just the aesthetic concern: these things genuinely matter. I have been doing this since 2005 and I bring my full medical background into every treatment room.
Avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24 hours. Skip intense heat, including saunas and steam rooms, for a week. Do not massage or press on the treated area. Use SPF religiously in the weeks after treatment, as the skin is more vulnerable to UV damage during the healing phase. I will give you full written aftercare before you leave.
