Expert Mole Checks & Skin Lesion Assessment

Assessment by an experienced GP Minor Surgery Lead

Many patients attend because they have noticed a new mole, a change in an existing mole, or a skin lesion they would like assessed.
Dr Andrew Welch uses dermoscopy to examine lesions in greater detail than can be seen with the naked eye. This helps guide whether a lesion appears benign, requires monitoring, or should be removed and sent for histological examination.
If removal is appropriate, this can often be arranged within the clinic as a separate procedure under local anaesthetic.

I have been coming to Health &. Aesthetics for several years. For anyone who wants to slow down the agent process, and have their skin looking the best it can be, I cannot recommend Dr Taylor and her aestheticians highly enough. They are extremely knowledgeable, professional and personable. The hydrofacials leave my skin looking and feeling fantastic. It’s so well worth it.

What is dermoscopy?

Dermoscopy is a method of examining skin lesions using a specialist magnifying device that allows structures beneath the skin surface to be assessed.

Should I get a changing mole checked?

Any mole that changes in size, shape, colour, becomes itchy or bleeds should be assessed by a medical professional.

Can moles be removed?

Many benign moles can be removed, although every lesion should first be properly assessed.

Do all removed lesions go to pathology?

Yes. Any excised lesion is routinely sent for histological examination.
