Botox for crow’s feet and frown lines

Posted on 16th July 2024 by Hannah Betts

In the pursuit of youthful, smooth skin, anti-wrinkle injections, or Botox, has become a staple.

With the ability to effectively and subtly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, anti-wrinkle injections have surged in popularity, often being used in key areas of concern such as the crow’s feet and frown lines.

In this blog, we’ll explore how Botox for crow’s feet and frown lines works and what to expect from the treatment, helping you to make an informed decision around whether Botox is right for you.

What are crow’s feet and frown lines?

Crow’s feet, also known as laugh lines, are the fine lines that radiate from the outer corners of the eyes. They are primarily caused by repetitive facial expressions, such as smiling, squinting, and laughing. Over time, these expressions break down the collagen and elastin in the skin, which are key proteins that give the skin its structure and firmness. This breakdown leads to the formation of wrinkles.

Frown lines, on the other hand, are the vertical lines that appear between the eyebrows, often referred to as “11” lines. These lines are the result of frequent frowning, stress, and the natural ageing process. Like crow’s feet, they form due to the repetitive movement of facial muscles, which eventually creates creases in the skin.

How does Botox work?

Botox and Nuceiva (a similar product to Botox) contains active botulinum toxin type A. When injected into muscles, this toxin temporarily blocks the nerve signals that cause the muscles to contract and move. Botox and Nuceiva can be used for a wide range of conditions. In aesthetic medicine, Botox or Nuceiva is injected into targeted areas such as around the eyes or between the eyebrows. The Botox or Nuceiva immobilises and relaxes the underlying muscles, preventing them from moving too much. This relaxation smooths out the overlying skin, reducing the appearance of wrinkles (like crow’s feet and frown lines) and preventing new ones from forming.

Botox for crow’s feet and frown lines

Following a consultation to assess suitability, Botox is often a popular treatment option for people with fine lines and wrinkles such as crow’s feet and frown lines.

By relaxing the muscles around the eyes, Botox can help to soften the appearance of lines, helping you look rejuvenated and youthful.

At Health & Aesthetics, we strongly believe in creating natural-looking results that feel authentic to you, avoiding a ‘frozen’ expression.

When it comes to Botox for crow’s feet or Botox for frown lines, we take a really cautious approach to the treatment. Using an ultra fine needle, Botox is placed into very precise areas, helping to immobilise targeted muscles while also keeping the rest of the face moving. This helps results to blend effortlessly into your existing features, and also ensures we don’t erase all expression around the eye region.

What is the treatment process for Botox for crow’s feet or frown lines?

Consultation: Before Botox treatment, a consultation with a qualified practitioner is essential. During this consultation, your medical history, aesthetic goals, and any concerns will be discussed to determine the best treatment plan for your individual needs. We will not offer you Botox if we don’t think it is safe or effective for you. Only medical practitioners like doctors are on the prescribers list and so can legitimately prescribe Botox. If an individual is not on the prescribers list, then they cannot legally prescribe Botox.

Treatment: The actual procedure involves using a fine needle to inject small amounts of Botox into the targeted muscles responsible for crow’s feet and frown lines. The process is usually quick (up to 10-15  minutes), and discomfort is minimal. Most patients describe the sensation as a slight pinch or sting.

Aftercare: Recovery time after Botox is minimal, meaning most people can return to daily activities almost right away. We recommend avoiding strenuous activities for at least 24 hours after treatment. Some people experience minor side effects like tenderness, bruising, or redness at the injection site. However, these effects are temporary and usually go down within a few days. Contact your doctor immediately if you experience any side effects such as breathing difficulties, hives, or feeling faint.

Maintenance: Results typically last between 3 and 4 months. Some patients may wish to have regular maintenance Botox injections to sustain results.

Why choose Botox for crow’s feet or frown lines?

  • Quick results: When you have Botox for frown lines or for crow’s feet, results take effect just two weeks after treatment. We also offer a free check-up two weeks after treatment.
  • Preventative measure: Botox for crow’s feet and frown lines not only treats existing wrinkles but also acts as a preventative measure. By relaxing the facial muscles, Botox prevents the deepening of current lines and the formation of new ones, helping to maintain a youthful appearance over time.
  • Minimally invasive: Botox offers a less intense alternative to surgical procedures like facelifts. There are no surgery, stitches, or significant downtime required, making it an attractive option for those seeking quick, effective results without the risks associated with surgery.
