Rosacea treatment for men: from redness to relief

Posted on 10th July 2025 by Dr Rekha Tailor

Are you struggling with redness, visible veins, or irritation on your face? You’re not alone. While rosacea is often associated with women, an increasing number of men are seeking rosacea treatment for its frustrating symptoms too. The good news? There are effective rosacea treatments that can be specifically tailored for men’s skin. In this blog, we’ll break down what causes rosacea in men as well as the best treatments—from prescription skincare to HydraFacials and laser treatments.

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that can cause redness, visible blood vessels and sometimes pustules usually on the face. This can be uncomfortable for patients due to itching and burning, flushing of the skin, breakouts or pustules as well as thickening and inflammation of the skin.

In the most severe cases patients may develop a Rhinophyma where the nose becomes thickened, bumpy and enlarged. This typically affects more men than women.

How is rosacea different in men vs women?

Rosacea can be more severe in men than in women which is often due to delays in diagnosis and treatment. Men are also less likely to use skincare or sun protection than women which can contribute to rosacea. Thicker facial skin and hormonal difference can lead rosacea symptoms to be more severe in men than in women.

What Rosacea treatments are there for men?

Rosacea and acne can often be confused as they can sometimes look quite similar on the surface. The first step to treating both are correct diagnosis which can be done by an experienced doctor or aesthetician.

At Health and Aesthetics we will diagnose your condition based on the following:

  • Your medical history
  • An in-depth examination of your skin using our Visia skin imaging device
  • Identifying your triggers

There are several treatment options available to tackle a range of Rosacea symptoms.

ZO Skin Health

The first step in the treatment of Rosacea is using our medical grade skincare ZO Skin Health by Dr Zein Obagi. We tailor a bespoke treatment plan to tackle the inflammation and other symptoms of your rosacea.

One of the hero products for Rosacea is Rozatrol which works to repair skin’s barrier function and calm inflammation. Other products can also be used to tackle the excess oil production often associated with rosacea.

All skincare programmes should be finished with a high-quality SPF to protect skin from harmful UV rays which are known to worsen rosacea.

HydraFacial’s

A HydraFacial uses five steps to cleanse, exfoliate and treat the skin using a gentle vacuum-like device combined with medicated serums. HydraFacial’s can help rosacea by:

  • deeply cleansing pores with no harsh scrubbing
  • improving hydration in compromised and sensitive skin
  • reducing redness and inflammation through applying calming serums

The treatment is completely customisable so our therapists can adjust the treatment according to your specific rosacea symptoms.

Laser Treatments

A course of laser treatments with the Excel V+ laser can be used to treat visible or bleeding blood vessels caused by Rosacea. The laser uses dual wavelengths to precisely target blood vessels without causing damage to surrounding tissues. The laser energy is absorbed by haemoglobin in the blood vessels which causes targeted veins to heat up and collapse. The body then naturally breaks down and removes treated veins.

Thickened skin as well as a Rhinophyma can be treated with laser resurfacing using out Alma Hybrid CO2 laser. The Alma Hybrid harnesses a combination of ablative and non-ablative lasers and is highly customisable. It can be used to remove damaged layers of the skin and encourage the skin to regenerate.

How long does it take for rosacea treatments to work?

Improvements in your skin may be seen from as early as 4-6 weeks however a course of treatments is required and full results won’t be seen until the full course is completed which can take several months.

CO2 laser should only be used once the skin has first been prepared using medical grade skincare and other treatments and should not be used during an active flare up. Always ensure you only have treatment by a therapist or doctor experienced in laser treatments.
