A woman undergoing Secret RF treatment for skin rejuvenation and tightening

When it comes to Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling, there are many options out there on the market. And with several devices available on the market, it’s often difficult to compare. While each device performs the same basic function there are differences in the device & the results.

Two of the most popular radiofrequency microneedling options are the Secret RF from Cutera and the Morpheus8 from Inmode. Here we’ll compare the two treatments to make sure you are fully informed in your decision into which may be best for you.

What is Microneedling?

Micro-Needling is aimed at stimulating the body’s own collagen production to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, enlarged pores, stretch marks, skin laxity, and scarring such as that caused by acne or chickenpox.

The tiny, controlled injuries (microchannels) that the needles create on the skin then work to stimulate the skin’s natural self-repair response and work to produce collagen and elastin and the support of new skin cell growth and fibroblasts.

Microneedling is minimally invasive, requiring no downtime other than some redness that might last a few days.

What is Secret RF?

As a microneedling procedure, Secret RF stimulates the body’s natural healing response of producing collagen by selectively penetrating the skin to varying depths and delivering radiofrequency energy. The radiofrequency energy delivered via Secret RF’s microneedles is a unique, patented technology that produces a greater collagen-building effect than other microneedling procedures.

What is Morpheus8?

The Morpheus8 is a new subdermal adipose remodeling device (SARD) that fractionally remodels and contours the face and body. Penetrating deep into the skin and fat, this morphs the aging face or body into a more desired smooth and sleek appearance.

Benefits of Secret RF

The Secret RF is highly effective in treating a range of issues on both the face and body. The device induces dermal remodeling and is designed to stimulate and remodel collagen to address the common signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles, and mild to moderate sagging. The Secret RF also treats sun spots, scarring, acne scars, and stretch marks.

One of the primary benefits of Secret RF is that the treatment is highly customizable, making it suitable for a wide range of skin types or concerns. Those who are concerned about skin sensitivity or hyperpigmentation are often better suited for the Secret RF, as the treatment can be adjusted according to the need.

Secret RF vs Morpheus8

Finally, Secret RF treatment requires little to no downtime. Some side effects commonly include slight swelling or redness, but these should subside quickly. Many Secret RF patients will see results begin to emerge after their very first treatment, and these continue to improve over time.

Benefits of Morpheus8

Morpheus8 is designed to target deep layers of the skin, triggering collagen production for a more youthful or rejuvenated look in much the same way that Secret RF does. Targeting deep layers of tissue makes Morpheus8 a good option for patients facing issues like scarring.

The treatment is less adjustable compared to options like Secret RF, meaning that some physicians may recommend against Morpheus8 for patients with certain skin tones, types, or concerns. However, it can be an effective option for the right candidates.

What is the difference?

Secret RF’s microneedling tips are gold-plated stainless steel and highly adjustable, making the treatment suitable for a wide range of skin types and needs. The needles can be adjusted between 0.5-3.5 mm depths to address different conditions or skin types.

The device uses a combination of non-insulated or semi-insulated needles, which can be selected according to the patient need. The device also includes two sizes of treatment tips – a 25 pin tip or 64 pin tip. The 64-pin handpiece covers the largest surface area of any RF microneedling device available on the market. The 25-pin tip is useful for smaller treatment areas and precise targeting of areas of the face.

Secret RF vs Morpheus8

In comparison, Morpheus8 is intended to treat the skin more deeply using microneedles which reach 8 mm below the skin’s surface. However, most people do not need microneedling to go that deep (unless they have VERY deep scarring) and the deeper the needles go, the more likely you are to hit the fat pads, causing a slight loss of volume.

Who are the right candidates for Secret RF vs. Morpheus8?

Secret RF and Morpheus8 are both suitable for a wide range of patients, as radiofrequency microneedling is known to be safe and effective for many skin types, tones and concerns. However, there are some factors to consider when choosing between the two. Patients who wish to treat a larger area of the body are better suited for the Secret RF.

One of the best things about Secret RF is that it’s safe for any skin type and colour, unlike other laser skin treatments which can cause complications on darker skin tones. This means a wide variety of people and skin types are good candidates for facial rejuvenation with Secret RF, if they have generally healthy skin.

Secret RF may also be a better option for those with more sensitive skin types, as the treatment is customizable and adjustable. In either case, you should be generally healthy overall and disclose any health concerns or medications with your practitioner before undergoing RF microneedling treatment.
