SuneKOS vs SkinVive: Which Skin Booster Is Right for You?

Posted on 28th June 2026 by Dr Rekha Tailor

If you have been looking into skin quality injectables and are trying to decide between SuneKOS and SkinVive, you are not alone. Both are popular treatments at Health & Aesthetics and both sit within the broad category of skin boosters, but they are built on entirely different science and they address skin in quite different ways. Understanding that distinction is genuinely useful before you decide which one to pursue.

The simple version: SkinVive gives you glow and hydration, quickly and precisely. SuneKOS gives you collagen, elastin and hydration, gradually and more deeply. Whether that makes one better than the other depends entirely on what your skin needs and what kind of result you are looking for. This blog works through both treatments clearly so you can go into your consultation with a much better idea of where to start.

SuneKOS: Rebuilding the Skin’s Architecture

SuneKOS is an Italian product developed by Professional Dietetics. It combines low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid with a patented blend of six amino acids: glycine, L-proline, L-leucine, L-lysine, L-valine and L-alanine. These are not random additives; they are the precise molecular building blocks the skin uses to construct collagen and elastin. When injected into the dermis, the amino acids provide the raw materials for the skin to produce both structural proteins simultaneously, through a process the manufacturer describes as dermal biogenesis.

This matters clinically because most skin quality injectables, however good, primarily address hydration and at best stimulate collagen alone. SuneKOS targets both collagen and elastin together, which is what makes it particularly well suited to concerns where the skin has lost its structural integrity: fine lines, crepey texture, thinning around the eyes and neck, and the general loss of bounce and firmness that creeps in over time.

At Health & Aesthetics we use SuneKOS Performa and SuneKOS 1200. Performa is the enhanced formulation, an improvement on the original SuneKOS 200 with clinical data supporting greater efficacy, used across the face, under-eyes, neck, décolleté and hands. SuneKOS 1200 uses a medium molecular weight HA to provide additional structural depth in cases of more advanced laxity or deeper concerns, and is used alongside Performa rather than as a standalone treatment.

Results from SuneKOS are gradual because they depend on the skin doing its own biological work. Patients typically notice early improvement after two to three sessions and optimal results four to six weeks after completing the course. The improvement is real and cumulative: each session builds on the last, and the collagen and elastin that the skin produces does not disappear overnight when the product itself biodegrades.

Why elastin matters as much as collagen

We talk about collagen constantly in aesthetics, and rightly so, but elastin is the protein that allows skin to spring back, resist sagging and behave like young skin under tension. Its production declines with age just as collagen does, and it is significantly harder to stimulate. Most skin treatments target collagen only. SuneKOS targets both simultaneously, which is one of the reasons it produces a quality of skin improvement.

SkinVive by Juvederm: Precision Glow from Within

SkinVive is made by Allergan Aesthetics, the company behind Juvederm. It uses lightly crosslinked hyaluronic acid, developed using the same Vycross technology that underpins the Juvederm family of fillers, delivered as a series of tiny, precise microdroplets injected intradermally, directly into the skin’s dermal layer rather than the deeper tissue.

The HA in SkinVive stays where it is placed. Because it is crosslinked, it does not spread or diffuse through the tissue the way that non-crosslinked HA products like Profhilo do. It sits within the dermis, attracting and binding water to create a sustained reservoir of hydration that improves skin texture, smoothness and radiance. The result is visible fairly quickly: most patients notice their skin looks clearer, more luminous and more even within a few days of treatment.

SkinVive does not stimulate collagen or elastin in a meaningful way. It does not change facial structure, add volume or address skin laxity. Its role is purely about skin surface quality: glow, hydration and smoothness. That clarity of purpose is one of its strengths. Patients who know they want a luminosity and texture improvement rather than a regenerative result get exactly what they came for.

Treatment takes around fifteen to thirty minutes and is generally very comfortable, as the product contains lidocaine. SkinVive is primarily indicated for the cheeks, with one session typically sufficient and maintenance every five to six months. Results last up to six to nine months.

Who tends to do well with SkinVive

SkinVive suits a wide range of patients, including those in their twenties and thirties who want to maintain skin quality and enjoy a reliable glow without having anything more structural done. It is also excellent for patients who have had other treatments, whether injectables, laser or energy-based devices, and want a finishing treatment that adds surface luminosity on top. Patients who are new to injectables often find it a comfortable and gratifying introduction to what skin quality treatments can achieve.

The Core Distinction: Regeneration vs Hydration

If there is one sentence that captures the difference between these two treatments, it is this: SuneKOS rebuilds the skin’s infrastructure; SkinVive enhances what is already there.

SuneKOS works by giving the skin the tools it needs to repair and regenerate its own collagen and elastin framework. The improvement is slower to appear because it depends on a genuine biological process, but what develops is a change in the quality and resilience of the skin itself, not just in how it looks on the surface. Patients who complete a SuneKOS course often describe their skin as feeling fundamentally different: firmer, more elastic, less prone to the thin, papery quality that comes with age.

SkinVive works by placing hydration precisely within the dermis. The improvement is faster to see and very pleasing, but it is primarily a surface quality enhancement rather than a structural one. The skin looks better because it is better hydrated; it does not behave differently in the way it does after a course of SuneKOS.

Neither of these things is a criticism of either treatment. They are designed to do different things. The question is always which one your skin needs right now.

The under-eye area: where SuneKOS has a clear advantage

One of the most commonly asked questions I get about both treatments is which one is better for the under-eye area. The answer is SuneKOS, clearly. The skin beneath the eyes is exceptionally thin and delicate and what it needs in most cases is improved structural quality: better elasticity, firmer tissue and reduction in the crepey texture that develops as elastin declines. SuneKOS Performa is one of the few injectables we regularly use in the periocular area because the low molecular weight HA and amino acid combination is both effective and well tolerated in that delicate zone. SkinVive is not indicated for the under-eyes and is not appropriate in that area.

Speed of results

This is worth being direct about. SkinVive produces a visible result within days. Patients often notice the improvement before they have even left the clinic and are very pleased with how quickly their skin responds. SuneKOS takes longer. The first signs of improvement generally appear after two to three sessions and the full effect develops over the weeks following the completed course. If you need something to look noticeably better for a specific event in the near future, SkinVive is the more practical choice. If you are investing in your skin for the medium to long term and are prepared to let the biology work, SuneKOS is the stronger treatment.

The course commitment

SkinVive requires one session for most patients, with an optional top-up at four weeks. SuneKOS requires a course of three to four sessions, typically spaced seven to fourteen days apart. That is a meaningful difference in both time and budget, and it is worth factoring in honestly when making your decision. The results from SuneKOS are more durable precisely because they are based on structural changes in the skin rather than a hydrating product that gradually metabolises.

Side-by-Side Comparison

SuneKOS SkinVive by Juvederm
What it is An injectable combining low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid with six amino acids (glycine, L-proline, L-leucine, L-lysine, L-valine and L-alanine), which are the direct building blocks of collagen and elastin A microdroplet injectable using lightly crosslinked hyaluronic acid (Vycross technology), designed to improve skin smoothness, hydration and glow within the dermis
How it works Amino acids provide the raw materials the skin needs to produce collagen and elastin simultaneously; the HA activates the extracellular matrix to support this process (dermal biogenesis). SuneKOS 1200 adds a medium molecular weight HA for structural support when used alongside Performa Precise intradermal microdroplets of crosslinked HA attract and retain moisture within the dermis, improving skin texture, radiance and smoothness. Product stays where it is placed
Primary goal Simultaneous collagen and elastin regeneration; skin quality improvement including fine lines, crepey texture, elasticity and hydration Surface skin quality: hydration, glow and smoothness refinement without any structural change
Key distinction Targets both collagen and elastin together via amino acid building blocks; addresses skin architecture as well as hydration Targets skin surface quality through precise HA hydration; does not stimulate collagen or elastin directly
Best for Fine lines, crepey or thinning skin, loss of elasticity, under-eyes, neck, décolleté, hands; patients who want collagen and elastin regeneration alongside hydration Patients wanting improved skin glow, smoothness and hydration in the cheeks without structural change; suits a wide age range including younger patients

Can combine? Yes; pairs well with SkinVive, polynucleotides, anti-wrinkle injections and Profhilo Yes; pairs well with SuneKOS, Profhilo, HarmonICa and anti-wrinkle injections

Which One Is Right for You?

The honest answer, as ever, depends on your skin, your goals and your circumstances. Here is how I think about it:

  • Choose SuneKOS if you are concerned about fine lines, crepey or thinning skin, loss of elasticity or skin that has lost its firmness and bounce. If the under-eye area, neck or décolleté are among your concerns, SuneKOS is almost always the more appropriate starting point. It suits patients who want to invest in their skin’s structural quality and are happy to commit to a course and wait for the biological improvement to develop.
  • Choose SkinVive if your main goal is a glow, improved smoothness and hydration in the cheeks, and you want a result that appears relatively quickly without any structural change. It is a particularly good choice for patients who are new to injectables, who want something subtle, or who simply want their skin to look its best without a significant course commitment.
  • Consider both if you want regeneration and radiance together. SuneKOS and SkinVive are fully compatible and complement each other well. SuneKOS addresses the structural quality and regenerative depth; SkinVive adds a layer of surface luminosity and glow on top. Used together, they cover different aspects of skin quality in a way that neither achieves alone.
  • Think about age and skin stage as a guide, not a rule. Younger patients whose skin is fundamentally in good condition and who want to maintain it often find SkinVive is exactly the right level of treatment. Patients from their mid-thirties onwards who are beginning to see the effects of collagen and elastin decline tend to respond very well to SuneKOS, either alone or alongside SkinVive.
  • If you are uncertain, come in for a consultation. This is genuinely a decision that benefits from a proper look at your skin rather than a self-assessment based on a blog post. The combination and sequencing of treatments matters, and that is what we work out together in person.

My View

I find these two treatments sit in different parts of my clinical toolkit rather than competing with each other, which makes decisions about them more straightforward than they might initially seem. When a patient comes in wanting their skin to look more luminous and refreshed without any significant change or course commitment, SkinVive is an excellent answer. When a patient comes in wanting their skin to actually improve structurally, to become better tissue rather than just look better temporarily, SuneKOS is the more powerful option.

The patients I find benefit most from SuneKOS are those who have noticed their skin becoming thinner, crepier or less firm over time, particularly around the eyes and neck, and who want something that genuinely addresses that rather than just masking it. The patients who tend to love SkinVive most are those who know their skin is fundamentally in reasonable shape and just want it to look as good as possible with minimum fuss.

Both are treatments I recommend with genuine confidence. The difference between a satisfying result and an outstanding one usually comes down to choosing the right treatment for the right patient at the right stage of their skin journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can SuneKOS and SkinVive be done at the same time?

Yes. Because they work at different depths and through different mechanisms, they are compatible and can be done on the same visit or as part of the same treatment plan. Some patients prefer to complete a course of SuneKOS first and then add SkinVive as a finishing treatment; others have both running concurrently. We will work out the right approach for you during consultation based on your skin and your goals.

I have had SkinVive and enjoyed the glow but wonder if SuneKOS would give me more. Is that a reasonable instinct?

Yes, it is. If you have had SkinVive and are happy with the hydration and glow but feel your skin could benefit from more structural improvement, SuneKOS is a logical next step. The two treatments address different dimensions of skin quality, and patients who have already experienced SkinVive often find SuneKOS adds something distinctly different rather than simply more of the same. A consultation would allow us to assess what your skin actually needs at this stage and design a plan accordingly.

Is SuneKOS suitable for younger patients?

Yes. SuneKOS is not exclusively a treatment for more advanced skin ageing. Younger patients who want to address early fine lines, improve skin quality preventatively or treat specific concerns such as under-eye crepiness can benefit from SuneKOS. The amino acid and HA combination is gentle enough for younger skin and the results are appropriate at any age where the skin would benefit from improved collagen and elastin production. We assess suitability individually at consultation.

Does SuneKOS hurt more than SkinVive?

Both treatments are well tolerated by most patients. SkinVive contains lidocaine, which numbs the area progressively during treatment, and the injections are very superficial. SuneKOS is injected using fine needles and whilst it does not contain lidocaine, most patients find it very manageable. We can apply a topical numbing cream beforehand for either treatment if preferred. The under-eye area can be more sensitive for SuneKOS regardless of treatment, and we take particular care in that zone.

How soon will I see results from SuneKOS?

Most patients begin to notice early signs of improvement, including improved hydration and some firming, after two to three sessions. The clearest improvement in skin quality, including texture, elasticity and reduction in fine lines, typically becomes apparent four to six weeks after completing the course. The results continue to develop after that point as the skin’s collagen and elastin production builds. Patients who commit to the full course consistently report the most satisfying outcomes.

Can SuneKOS replace SkinVive if I want both hydration and collagen stimulation?

SuneKOS does provide hydration alongside its collagen and elastin stimulating effect, thanks to the hyaluronic acid in its formulation. So for patients who want collagen, elastin and hydration from a single treatment, SuneKOS is a strong option. However, SkinVive’s glow and surface smoothness effect is quite distinctive and comes from the precise intradermal microdroplet placement of crosslinked HA within the cheeks. Some patients find SuneKOS meets their full skin quality brief; others find the two together give a result they prefer. That is something we can work through honestly at your consultation.

Ready to Work Out Which Is Right for You?

SuneKOS and SkinVive are both available at Health & Aesthetics and both treatments I use regularly and with confidence. The right choice depends on what your skin needs, what you want to achieve and how you feel about the course commitment and timeline. None of that can be decided properly from a blog post alone.

If you are ready to talk it through, book a consultation and we will take a proper look at your skin together.
