Do you suffer from acne-prone skin, breakouts, clogged pores, and excess oil? And have you found yourself trying to push through retinol usage but constantly find yourself purging with tedious breakouts?
Exfoliation Accelerator from ZO Skin Health is great for acne and oily skin types and for those with thick skin. It can be used as an alternative to retinol or as a retinol preparation treatment.
What is Exfoliation Accelerator?
Exfoliation Accelerator combines 10% glycolic and lactic acid, vitamins A&E, aloe, green tea, and chamomile blend to provide, exfoliation and epidermal renewal without excessive irritation.
Glycolic acid and lactic acid both aid dead skin cell removal and both share multiple properties that are beneficial for skin health such as keratolytic, humectant, and chemical exfoliation properties.
How does Exfoliation Accelerator work?
Exfoliation Accelerator enables epidermal skin cell regeneration at a rapid rate. The accelerator will clear clogged pores and bring toxins to the surface whilst improving skin texture. Glycolic acid and lactic acid are both AHA chemical exfoliators, they work to lift away oil and break down clogged pores and remove dead skin cells without overstimulating the dermis layer of the skin.
Therefore, even though an x amount of purging is still to be expected, in theory, it should not be to the same extent as an individual would experience from using retinol such as ZO Skin Health Wrinkle and Texture repair, as we are not penetrating the dermis layer.
10% is the highest percentage rate that Glycolic and lactic acid can be sold and used in ‘at home’ skin care products. Exfoliation Accelerator is a safe but high blend of ‘at home’ chemical exfoliation’.

Who shouldn’t use Exfoliation Accelerator?
It is important to note that anyone with an allergy to dairy is not permitted to use lactic acid as lactic acid is derived from dairy.
What is the Difference between Lactic and Glycolic acid?
Even though lactic acid and glycolic acid are both AHA’s and share the same properties, they are different in molecule size and penetrate the skin at different depths due to their size.
Glycolic acid is the smallest but strongest of the AHA’s, it is stronger because it penetrates deeper due to its small molecule size. Although it is the strongest, it does not strip the skin of lipids.
Lactic acid is the most gentle AHA as it has the largest molecule size and therefore treats at a very superficial level on the epidermis.
Why use Exfoliation Accelerator not Retinol?
Exfoliation Accelerator is a great way to prep the skin before using retinol as it will help start the skin cell renewal and regeneration process. This will help reduce the flaking an individual may experience when first using retinol. This will work by gently exfoliating the dead skin cells at a rapid rate. Retinols promote skin cell turnover as well as stimulate collagen and elastin.
Whereas exfoliation accelerator does not stimulate collagen and elastin so for those wanting to combat aging retinol are a highly recommended product in any regime for their high level of collagen and elastin stimulation.
