For many, many years of working in this field, I know only too well how debilitating acne can be for patients. Not just cosmetically but also in terms of their self-confidence.
Clearly, there are many acne treatments in Surrey available, both on prescription and over the counter. But, as anyone who has ever suffered from really stubborn or severe acne will tell you, these don’t work for everyone. Some may create only a temporary improvement, which doesn’t last and some patients also experience side-effects.
So, here at Health & Aesthetics, we are really delighted to introduce a powerful, new non-invasive laser treatment called ClearSkin™. It achieves fantastic, long-lasting results; giving you a clearer, smoother complexion without any side-effects or downtime.
The Harmony ClearSkin™ treatment is suitable for all skin types and can be used anywhere on the body, including the face, chest and back. It is clinically proven to be safe and highly effective at treating both active acne and acne scarring from previous outbreaks.
What is acne?
Acne is caused when tiny hair follicles in the skin become blocked by an oily substance, secreted by the sebaceous glands, called sebum. The excess sebum mixes with dead skin cells which together form a plug in the follicle. It forces it to bulge out from the surface and create a spot. Normally harmless bacteria that live on the skin can then infect the blocked follicles and cause the skin to become red and inflamed. While acne isn’t a medically dangerous condition, the spots can be painful, distressing and can lead to lasting scarring.
So how does ClearSkin treatment work and how is it different to other laser procedures?
ClearSkin™ is the first technology to combine non-ablative laser treatment, with contact cooling and vacuum technology. What does this mean you may ask? It means the treatment delivers laser light, using the latest ClearSkin Er:Glass (erbium glass fibre) laser. This penetrates deep into the skin’s layers and targets the oil-producing sebaceous glands. The heat generated destroys the bacteria responsible for causing the acne and helps to reduce the over production of sebum/oil.
The vacuum element extracts all the material and debris that builds up in the pores, thus cleaning the area. At the same time, the contact cooling element protects the surface of the skin from any damage. This means that throughout the treatment the patient feels comfortable and in no pain, even while the laser energy is doing its job deep inside your skin.
As well as targeting active acne, we can also use ClearSkin™ to target acne scarring. This is because it stimulates the production of new collagen where the laser is targeted. This smooths and replenishes the skin’s surface creating a clear, healthy complexion. In fact, as well as treating acne, ClearSkin™ treatment is also great for treating blackheads and open pores. Moreover, it reduces the appearance of lines, wrinkles, crepey skin and sun spots.
Each treatment takes around 30 minutes. We usually recommend a course of 6-12 treatments at 2-3 week intervals in order to see optimal results. Following each treatment you may experience mild redness and irritation of the area, but this should pass quickly. Healing can also be enhanced by having Dermalux LED Light Therapy immediately after laser treatment.
The feedback we have had from patients about this treatment so far has been fantastic. They have noticed significant improvements in the appearance of their skin which has had a knock on effect on their overall well-being. View before and after pictures here.
