CoolSculpting is a cosmetic procedure that provides an effective way to remove stubborn fat from your body in a specific area to achieve a more sculpted figure. Before undergoing any treatment, many patients want to know how many CoolSculpting sessions they will need to achieve their desired result.

The number of sessions required depends primarily on the size of the treated area and the results you’d like to achieve.

How the CoolSculpting procedure works

To understand why more than one CoolSculpting session may be needed, it’s important to know how the procedure works.

The CoolSculpting procedure works by freezing the fat cells in the treated area and, unlike liposuction, does not require surgery. Freezing the cells in this way results in fat cell death, causing them to shrink. The cells are then naturally metabolised by your liver as your body eliminates them.

You may start to see results within a few weeks of the procedure but it can take up to four months to reach the full amount of fat reduction as the dead fat cells are slowly eliminated by your body.

One treatment session can be effective at reducing fat in the treated area by up to 25%. Other procedures such as liposuction can remove up to 75% of your body fat in the treated area with just one treatment but CoolSculpting is a less invasive procedure.

How many CoolSculpting sessions are needed for each area of the body?

The CoolSculpting procedure can be performed on many different areas of the body. If you’re already close to your ideal weight, it’s possible that one CoolSculpting session will be effective. A small area of fat can be reduced enough to show a visible difference after the first procedure.

For larger areas or areas with more fat, more sessions may be required but this should be discussed during your initial consultation to create a treatment plan that will help you to achieve the results you want.

During an initial consultation, we will discuss the area you would like to target and the results you’d like to achieve. Each patient is different so we will take the amount of fat, your current shape and your medical history into account when deciding how many CoolSculpting treatments or sessions may be needed.

At Health & Aesthetics, we offer DualSculpting which means that two applicators can be applied at the same time. This is particularly useful if more than one area is being treated or for areas such as the arms and saddlebags where two treatments are required.

How many CoolSculpting treatments are needed for your chin?

Many patients choose CoolSculpting for their chin in order to reduce the appearance of a double chin. Your chin can be one of the last areas to lose fat during a weight loss programme and makes it a popular area for treatment.

For your chin and neck area, one treatment may be sufficient but up to three treatments could be required, depending on your body and the results you’re looking for. During your initial consultation, it will be decided how many treatments will be needed for this area.

How many CoolSculpting treatments are needed for your arms?

For your arms, one CoolSculpting treatment session is usually sufficient and will achieve up to a 25% reduction in fat.

To find out how many treatments you will need for your arms, you should speak to your consultant who will decide on the best course of treatment for you.

How many CoolSculpting treatments are needed for your thighs?

Many patients feel uncomfortable with the fat on their inner thighs and it can often be difficult to shift, despite a healthy lifestyle and exercise. CoolSculpting can be applied to your thighs and will help to slim their appearance.

The number of treatments needed for your thighs will be discussed during your initial consultation.

How many CoolSculpting treatments are needed for your stomach?

The stomach is one of the most popular areas for CoolSculpting treatments. It can be tricky to get rid of unwanted fat in this area through exercise and diet alone. Age and life events such as pregnancy can also make it difficult to lose fat in these areas. As a result, many patients turn to CoolSculpting to reduce fat and increase their confidence.

When choosing to have CoolSculpting sessions for your stomach, it’s important to speak to your consultant about the best course of treatment to help you achieve your desired results. At this point, it will be possible to determine whether one CoolSculpting treatment session will be enough or if more treatment sessions will be required.

You can find out more about which areas of your body can be treated with CoolSculpting here.

How long should I wait between treatments?

CoolSculpting doesn’t offer instant or immediately visible results. You may start to see a difference in appearance a few weeks after treatment but it can take up to four months to see the final results.

It takes three to four months to see the full results from CoolSculpting but some patients may see quicker results as there is less fat in the treated area to get rid of. Some patients will see greater results after one treatment whereas others may need multiple treatments or sessions.

The number of CoolSculpting treatments you will need is decided during your initial consultation. It can take up to four month to see the full results but it is not necessary to wait this long before having further treatments.

Is there a limit to how many CoolSculpting treatments you can have?

There is no limit to the number of CoolSculpting treatments you can have. However, there must be subcutaneous pinchable fat in the selected area or the treatment cannot be carried out.

What to consider before CoolSculpting

It’s important to remember that CoolSculpting is not a weight loss procedure. It’s a way to sculpt your appearance and remove stubborn fat once you have lost weight through exercise and a healthy lifestyle.

It’s usually recommended that you are at or around your ideal weight before having CoolSculpting treatments. This will allow you to achieve the best results with fewer treatments.
